Gentlemen:

	This is to offer the inadequate thanks of my wife and me
for all the hospitality the Inamori Foundation showed to us in
Kyoto.  We found the award ceremony especially impressive.
I am grateful for the award and want to express my thanks for
all the work done by the Foundation and its committees.
My especial thanks to Mr. Kazuo Inamori for extending the areas in
which such major awards are given beyond those established
by Alfred Nobel.

	We also enjoyed the visit to Kyoto and are grateful
for the hospitality of the City and the Prefecture.
